A two-day training session to disseminate the standard operating procedures relating to Joint Decree No. 00591 of 30 May 2025 on migrant disembarkation and care operations opened on Monday 14 October 2025 at the National School of Administration, Journalism and Magistracy.

In his address, the School’s Director General, Dr Mohamed Yahya Ould Saïd, said that holding this specialised workshop was inseparable from the country’s firm political will and from the guidance of the President of the Republic, Mr Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, who has made protecting people and safeguarding their dignity an absolute priority, and respect for human rights a fundamental pillar.

The Director General added that the session reflects the commitment of the government of Prime Minister El Moctar Ould Djay to an integrated approach that reconciles the requirements of national security with the country’s international obligations on international protection and migration governance.

The opening ceremony was held under the supervision of the Secretary General of the Ministry of the Interior, Mr Abderrahmane Ould El Hassen, in the presence of the Director of the National Authority against Trafficking in Persons and Migrant Smuggling, Mr Cheikh Tourad Ould Abdel Malick, and the representative of the International Organization for Migration in Nouakchott, Mr Idrissa Sombary.

The training session is the result of an agreement signed a few weeks ago by the School and the IOM office in Nouakchott to coordinate the two institutions’ work in training and capacity building.
